I choose the book Long-Arm Quarterback by Matt Christopher because I like playing football. I also choose this book for independent reading. Even though it only has 113 pages I thought it would be a good book.
Cap is the main character in this book but he is upset because he can’t play football on a real team. He always plays pickup games with his sister, but he is just to good. So when Cap gets the chance to play quarterback on a real team he takes it. Another important character is Caps grandpa Tully. Tully is the coach of the Cowpen Panthers. When Tully was Caps age he was Quarterback for the panthers and brought them to a state championship. Then suddenly Sable Cash comes to town and the two are forced to work together as coaches.
Cap and Tully are trying to start their own football team. Even though the ninth grade only has 8 boys. Tully has an idea to make a 6 man football team. After giving the idea to the principal he calls other schools and sets up 6 teams.
Out of 5 stars I give this book 4. I would recommend this book because it gives you a lot of details, but the beginning doesn’t pull you in. It got better towards the end so don’t stop reading. Even if you don’t like football you will like this book.
